My plan was simple:
Beat cravings one at a time with Commit.
- Merriann Flasco

I was a pack-a-day smoker for 40 years. All my friends smoked, too. It was social for us-and enjoyable. I had tried to quit before, but never stuck with it. My final motivation came when I woke up in the emergency room after what the doctors believed was a heart attack. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and my doctor said, "quit smoking or you will die." That's a pretty big motivator. So at 59, I finally quit with the help of Commit®.

My friends challenged me. They didn't think I could give it up after so many years. One friend even offered to buy me diamond earrings if I succeeded. My plan was to beat cravings one at a time with the help of Commit. I used to have coffee and a cigarette every morning. So I switched from coffee to orange juice. Took a lozenge and waited for the cravings to pass. I had to spend less time around my friends who smoked. That was the hardest part. But I joined a gym and made new friends in time.

It wasn't easy. I took it hour by hour, but I finally did it. I never thought I would see the day when I didn't smoke, but now I am happier, healthier and wearing a beautiful new pair of diamond earrings.
